Check AvailabilityWhy Choose a Komodo Liveaboard?
A liveaboard cruise transforms a Komodo visit from a hurried day trip into an immersive ocean adventure. Waking up anchored in a secluded bay, watching the sunrise paint Padar Island gold while sipping freshly brewed Indonesian coffee on deck — these are the moments that define a liveaboard experience. Unlike land-based tours, liveaboards grant access to the park’s most remote and pristine locations, arriving before the day-trip crowds and staying long after they have departed.
The traditional phinisi sailing vessels used for Komodo cruises are masterpieces of Indonesian maritime heritage, handcrafted by Sulawesi shipbuilders using techniques passed down through generations. Modern liveaboard conversions maintain this authentic character while adding contemporary comforts including air-conditioned cabins, hot water showers, gourmet dining, and professional dive equipment. The result is a unique blend of adventure and luxury that simply cannot be replicated by any other mode of travel.
Liveaboard Itineraries
Our liveaboard cruises are available in three main formats, each designed to maximize your experience within the available timeframe. Whether you have a weekend escape or a full week to explore, there is a perfect itinerary waiting for you.
2-Night Discovery Cruise
The ideal introduction to Komodo for time-conscious travelers. This compact itinerary covers the park’s greatest hits: Rinca Island dragon trekking, snorkeling at Pink Beach, the iconic Padar Island viewpoint hike, and sunset sailing through the strait. Two nights aboard allow you to experience the magic of sleeping on the ocean without requiring a lengthy holiday. Pricing starts from $500 per person on shared vessels.
3-Night Explorer Cruise
Our most popular itinerary adds Komodo Island to the mix, offering encounters with dragons on both major islands plus extended time at premier dive and snorkel sites including Manta Point, Crystal Rock, and Kanawa Island. The extra night allows for a more relaxed pace with longer stops and additional water activities. From $750 per person shared, $1,800+ for private charter.
4-Night Ultimate Expedition
The comprehensive Komodo experience covering the full breadth of the national park. This extended cruise ventures to remote southern islands, hidden bays, and seldom-visited dive sites that shorter itineraries cannot reach. Highlights include the legendary Batu Bolong pinnacle dive, secluded Gili Lawa Darat for sunrise trekking, and the pristine reefs of Tatawa Besar. From $1,000 per person shared, $2,500+ private charter.

Onboard Experience
Life aboard a Komodo liveaboard is a carefully orchestrated balance of adventure and relaxation. A typical day begins with an early morning dive or snorkel session in calm, current-free waters, followed by a full breakfast prepared by the onboard chef. Mid-morning brings island exploration — dragon trekking, beach walks, or viewpoint hikes — before returning to the vessel for lunch and a rest period during the heat of the day.
Afternoons offer a second dive or snorkel session at a different site, often timed to coincide with optimal marine life activity such as manta ray feeding at Manta Point or reef shark patrols at Castle Rock. As the sun begins its descent, the boat repositions to a scenic anchorage for sundowner drinks on deck, followed by a gourmet dinner under the stars. Most vessels offer onboard entertainment including board games, a small library, and stargazing from the upper deck.
Our Fleet
We partner exclusively with vessels that meet our strict standards for safety, comfort, and environmental responsibility. Our fleet ranges from intimate 4-cabin boats ideal for couples and small groups to spacious 8-cabin vessels perfect for larger parties and group charters. Every vessel undergoes annual safety inspections, carries full emergency equipment, and maintains comprehensive insurance coverage.
Standard amenities across our fleet include air-conditioned cabins with en-suite bathrooms, indoor and outdoor dining areas, sun decks with lounging areas, freshwater showers and rinse stations, professional snorkeling and basic diving equipment, kayaks and paddleboards, and a dedicated crew including captain, chef, and dive/snorkel guide.
Diving in Komodo
Komodo National Park is consistently ranked among the world’s top five dive destinations, and a liveaboard cruise offers the best access to its legendary underwater realm. The park’s unique position at the convergence of the Indian and Pacific Oceans creates nutrient-rich currents that support an extraordinary diversity of marine life — over 1,000 species of fish, 260 species of reef-building coral, and regular encounters with manta rays, reef sharks, sea turtles, and dolphins.
Our dive itineraries cater to all certification levels, from discover scuba experiences for beginners to advanced drift dives at sites like Batu Bolong and Shotgun. Each liveaboard carries a certified PADI dive instructor, full sets of dive equipment, and Nitrox capability. For dedicated divers, we recommend our specialized diving packages with 3-4 dives per day and visits to the park’s most renowned underwater sites.
Booking and Practical Information
Komodo liveaboard cruises depart year-round from Labuan Bajo harbor, with peak season running April through October. Advance booking is strongly recommended — our most popular vessels and dates can sell out 2-3 months ahead during peak season. All bookings include SiOra park registration, park entrance fees, meals, activities, and transfers from Labuan Bajo hotels or airport.
Guests should arrive in Labuan Bajo by midday on their departure date, as most cruises set sail between 1:00-3:00 PM. We provide complimentary airport transfers and can arrange pre-cruise accommodation at our partner hotels. A moderate level of fitness is recommended, though itineraries can be customized for guests with mobility considerations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a liveaboard better than a day trip for Komodo?
Absolutely. A liveaboard provides access to remote sites, overnight anchorages, early morning and sunset experiences, and a far more relaxed pace. Day trips cover 2-3 spots in limited time, while liveaboards visit 8-12+ sites over multiple days. Read our detailed liveaboard vs day trip comparison.
Do I get seasick on a liveaboard?
The waters within Komodo National Park are generally calm and sheltered, especially during dry season (April-October). Traditional phinisi vessels are wide-beamed and stable. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend bringing medication and choosing a midship cabin for the smoothest ride.
What is included in the liveaboard price?
All meals (3 per day plus snacks), drinking water, tea, and coffee, cabin accommodation, snorkeling equipment, park fees and SiOra booking, ranger guides, airport/hotel transfers in Labuan Bajo, and all scheduled activities. Alcoholic beverages, diving equipment rental, and tips are typically not included.
Can I do a private liveaboard charter?
Yes, private charters are available for couples, families, and groups of up to 16 guests. Private charters offer complete flexibility in itinerary, schedule, and onboard services. Pricing starts from $1,800 for 2 nights on a standard vessel and $4,000+ for premium boats.
What happens if weather is bad during my cruise?
Our experienced captains monitor weather conditions closely and adjust itineraries as needed to ensure safety and maximize enjoyment. The sheltered waters of Komodo offer numerous alternative anchorages and dive sites. In the rare event of severe weather requiring cruise cancellation, we offer full rebooking or refund options.
